NEA Jazz Master and 14-time Grammy winner Herbie Hancock will bring his latest collaboration of musicians to NYC’s Beacon Theater on Thursday, August 1. He will be joined by special guest and jazz funk bass virtuoso Thundercat.
For over 6 decades, Herbie Hancock has been a leader in technology, culture, business and, of course, music. In addition to being a legendary pianist and composer, Herbie Hancock has been an integral part of every popular music movement since the 1960s. He is widely known for his groundbreaking work with The Miles Davis Quintet in the ’60s, and fusion of jazz, pop and funk with The Headhunters in the ’70s. This jazz crossover has also earned an Academy Award for his Round Midnight film score. Hancock was named a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador in 2011, received a Kennedy Center Honors Award in 2013 and a Grammy Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2016.
Hancock’s current all-star line up includes Vinnie Colaiuta (drums), James Genus (bass), Lionel Loueke (guitar), and Terrace Martin (sax/synthesizer). The show will include fan favorites and material from his anticipated upcoming album which includes collaborations with Kamasi Washington, Kendrick Lamar, Thundercat, Flying Lotus, Snoop Dogg, and more.
Thundercat, also known as Stephen Brunner, is a bassist, singer and songwriter from Los Angeles and has received acclaim for his work with Erykah Badu, Flying Lotus, Stanley Clarke and Kendrick Lamar. His energetic and head bopping improvisational jams will include songs from his 2017 release Drunk.
Tickets are on sale now through Ticketmaster (866.858.0008, www.ticketmaster.com) and in person at the Beacon box office.
