CAKE and Ben Folds will embark on a co-headlining summer tour in 2018. Tall Heights will provide support as the tour’s opening act. This is not the first time CAKE and Ben Folds have shared a bill, and both parties have expressed excitement about the reunion and playing with special guest Tall Heights. CAKE vocalist John McCrea praises co-headliner Ben Folds, saying “In a culture conflicted about its relationship to melody, and songwriting generally, Ben continues unapologetically to provide melodic clarity and musicality.” He then went on to say “I am also looking forward to hearing Tall Heights. This co-headline line up seems like a good combination of musical styles—disparate but not antithetical to each other—and it should be a solid evening of music.”
Ben Folds returned the sentiment, saying “CAKE—my rough contemporaries, comrades and heroes—to me, they make universal, poetic, identifiable music with a groove. I’ve learned a lot from these guys and I’m proud as punch to be on tour with them this summer.” He then added “I’m telling my friends to get there early enough for Tall Heights—a great addition to the bill.”
The tour will begin on Monday, Aug. 13 in Boston, MA, then it will stop in Asbury Park, NJ and Philadelphia, PA, before landing at the Forest Hills Stadium in Forest Hills on Friday, Aug. 17 — the only New York date on the schedule. A Southern swing will follow, with dates in Columbia, MD, Richmond, VA, and Nashville, TN, and the tour will conclude with a string of Midwest shows in Highland Park, IL, Milwaukee, WI, and Indianapolis, IN.
The tour is shaping up to be a crowd pleaser for fans of CAKE, Ben Folds, and Tall Heights. Vince DiFiore of CAKE is looking forward to the concerts, saying “the chemistry of our evening together with Ben and his band will be an inspiring jolt for us and the audience.”
