Twiddle invited some of their closest friends to Tumble Down this year. The two-day festival, hosted by the Vermont band, returns for the third year July 27 and 28 at the Waterfront Park in Burlington, Vt.
Twiddle headlines both nights with two sets each night.
The outdoor festival brings Matisyahu to Vermont, and he is no stranger to Twiddle. After joining Twiddle on stage at the Capitol Theatre in May 2016, they have formed a friendship that has led to more appearances. Matisyahu and Twiddle guitarist Mihali Savoulidis created a single together called “Storm Tossed” in August 2016. Collaboration at Tumble Down is inevitable.
Tumble Down made sure to book a variety of talent that will touch on all sorts of genres.
Pigeons Playing Ping Pong will bring the flock to Lake Champlain Waterfront. The funk band from Baltimore has played with Twiddle in the past.
Ripe, a seven-piece Boston-based band brings a jam, funk, jazz and soul. Billy Strings will bring the bluegrass and folk. Broccoli Samurai will hit on the jamtronica and EDM side.
Another friend Twiddle has brought along is Brandon “Taz” Niedrauer. The 14-year-old guitar prodigy sat in with the band last November at the Capitol Theatre.
Savaloudis joins friends Grahame Lesh and Elliot Peck (both of Midnight North) to form GEM, an acronym for their first names.
Other bands include: Pappy and Frends, West End Blend, Eggy, Brickdrop, Doctor Rick; 2% and Adventure Dog.
Also coinciding with the festivities are late night shows at nearby venue Higher Ground beginning at 11 p.m. On Friday night, Mihali & Frends featuring Matisyahu headline along with special guests. Everyone Orchestra headlines Saturday night, but details do not say who will be included.
Other names included with the late night shows are Kitchen Dwellers, Hayley Jane and the Primates and Formula 5.
Twiddle likes to bring as much excitement as they can to their festival. The first year, Phish’s Page McConnell joined the band on stage for “When it Rains it Poors” — also featuring Holly Bowling.
The next year, Phil Lesh made his debut with Twiddle, as he played alongside his son, Grahame, and also Elliott Peck for the Grateful Dead song “Eyes of the World.”
The festival, held July 27-28, is included as part of the Lake Champlain Maritime Festival. Besides music, other events include yoga, a charity disc golf tournament and a PhanArt show. For more information visit the Higher Ground website.
