Update: LOCKN’ Festival 2018 Finalizes Schedule

Umphrey's McGee and Widespread Panic Sign on as Headliners

Update: LOCKN’ Festival dropped their full schedule on Feb. 8, leaving little to the imagination with an as-expected, stacked lineup.

Rounding out the schedule, additions include Matisyahu, Tedeschi Trucks Band, funk forefathers George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic, Big Something, Erin & The Wildfire, Butcher Brown, Band of Changes, Caitlyn Smith, Agents of Good Roots, and People’s Blues of Richmond. It doesn’t stop there, as nine time Grammy-winner Sheryl Crow, Toots & The Maytals, Blues Traveler, Keller Williams and up and coming jammers Spafford and Pigeons Playing Ping Pong are slated to play the famed VA festival on Oak Ridge Farm.

Along with Dead & Company, Umphrey’s McGee (three sets over two days) and Widespread Panic join the headlining ranks. Keep an eye out for Ghost Light, a newly convened group consisting of huge talent and the five personalities of Holly Bowling, Scotty Zwang, Tom Hamilton, Steve Lyons and Raina Mullen.

Original post: We’ve all heard LOCKN’ is for lovers–more specifically, LOCKN’ is for lovers of live music and in 2018, for love in the afternoon. The pivotal Arrington, VA music festival began hinting at a Dead and Company headliner via social media over the last month, with images and memes pertaining to classic Dead albums, sharing news about front man Bob Weir and finishing song lyrics back and forth with fans. In the early morning dew of Jan. 30, hints continued to roll out with a shot of a 13-point bolt haircut buzzed onto the back of bassist Oteil Burbridge’s head and today, a Grateful Dead stealie adorned with a LOCKN’ infinity symbol inside its skull. For those who weren’t already heavily convinced, festival organizer Peter Shapiro verbally confirmed a Dead & Company headliner for the four day affair.

“The Grateful Dead played legendary shows at Monterey Pop, the US Festival and Woodstock, but their heyday occurred before the modern music festivals we know today emerged,” said LOCKN’ organizer Peter Shapiro. “We are honored to have Dead & Company headline back-to-back nights because it’s so rare. This festival was built on the spirit of the Grateful Dead so their performance is going to be a very big deal for Deadheads everywhere.”

With four sets over two days, deadheads can rest knowing that Bob Weir, John Mayer, Bill Kreutzmann, Mickey Hart, Oteil Burbridge and Jeff Chimenti will be making at least one hefty jam-band centered festival appearance. Taking place on August 23-26, 2018 at the usual Oak Ridge Farm, fans only expect to see colossal names added to the four day lineup, comparing it to the robust bills that entertained in 2017 and earlier with the likes of The Disco Biscuits, Widespread Panic, Umphrey’s McGee, The String Cheese Incident and tons more.

The rest of the LOCKN’ lineup will unleash via social media throughout the coming week, with a new act revealed each day starting on Friday. Mark your calendars for Feb. 8 when the full LOCKN’ lineup launches.  Tier 1 tickets go on sale on February 9th via LOCKN’ Festival’s website. Three and four-day weekend passes are also available for purchase in 2018.

Keep checking back with NYS Music for an updated 2018 LOCKN’ lineup as the puzzle pieces together for its 6th year in operation.
