Friday, January 5
The Last Revel @ Funk ‘n Waffles Music Hall
A trio of talented multi-instrumentalists, The Last Revel are another addition to the ever-expanding list of Americana acts to keep on your radar. Out of Minneapolis, they add three-part harmonies to their diverse acoustic instrumental prowess for a sound that is old-timey with a more modern edge. Traditionally non-traditional, this should make for a rollicking start to the new year.

Eye Spy @ Skylark Lounge
Eye Spy, a trio from right here in Rochester, will blast you right to your core with their unique garage-punk-surf rock instrumentals. They don’t make it to the stage all that often so make sure to catch them in this early year show at Skylark Lounge. They’ll be joined by Periodic Table of Elephants in what is sure to be a bill that will have you bouncing off the walls like the venue’s pinball machines.
Friday, January 19
O’Connor Band @ Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre
Mark O’Connor, one of the top fiddlers in the world, brings his Grammy-winning O’Connor Band to the gorgeous Kodak Hall for a can’t miss evening of top notch bluegrass. The band features two Rochester connections, Geoff Saunders on bass and banjo and Kate Lee, who is also O’Connor’s daughter-in-law, on fiddle. O’Connor’s wife Maggie also plays fiddle while his son Forrest joins in on mandolin and guitar. This is a talented family you’ll definitely want to spend a cold evening with.

Homegrown Sete @ Lovin’ Cup
If you really want a heavy dose of Rochester love this month, there will be no better place than the annual Homegrown celebration at Lovin’ Cup. Hosted by Three Heads Brewery, this year’s musical lineup includes Majestics, The Saplings, Lost Wax Collective, The English Project, Friday In America, The Moho Collective and Periodic Table of Elephants. And, of course, the full day event will also feature local brews and eats. What a great way to sample all that Rochester has to offer.
Tuesday, January 30
David Wax Museum @ Good Luck
Honest Folk gets their 2018 lineup off to a strong start with the David Wax Museum. The band will visit for an intimate evening at Restaurant Good Luck, stripped down as just a duo. David Wax and wife Suz Slezak take Appalachian and Irish folk and mix in a hearty helping of traditional Mexican music for a sound that is all their own. Equal parts beautiful and floor-rattling, there won’t be a better way to close out the first month of 2018.
