20th Anniversary Tribute to Lilith Fair to Be Held in Syracuse

Central New York will host a 20th Anniversary Tribute Concert to Lilith Fair. The event takes place in Syracuse on Sept. 9. In the Lilith tradition, all the featured artists at Lilith fLair are women. More than a dozen performers are on the bill, including Grammy-Award winner Joanne Shenandoah.

Shenandoah, a singer/songwriter and acoustic guitarist, is slated to perform at the beginning of the event, accompanied by her sister, Diane and her daughter, Leah. Lilith fLair will be raising funds for Shenandoah, to help with mounting medical expenses as she awaits an organ transplant.

Other musicians on the bill include: Ashley Cox, Cait Devin, Gina Holsopple, Colleen Kattau, Riley Mahan, Kim Monroe, Peg Newell, Jess Novak, Joanne Perry, Wendy Ramsay, Amanda Rogers, Alani Skye, and Jes Sheldon. They will be performing their own original songs, as well as works that pay tribute to artists from the original Lilith shows.

Started in 1997 by Sarah McLachlan, Lilith Fair was a summer tour and festival that celebrated female musicians and female-fronted bands at a time when booking agents were reluctant to include women on the billing for shows. Among dozens of artists involved were Suzanne Vega, Paula Cole, Sheryl Crow, and Jewel. It became the top-grossing festival tour that year.

Lilith fLair will be held at The Palace Theatre in Syracuse at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9. Pre-sale tickets can be ordered online here, or purchased in cash at Sound Garden in Armory Square or at Syracuse Cultural Workers, 400 Lodi Street. VIP packages include a meet & greet with Shenandoah and others before the show and reserved seating. General admission is $17 and VIP is $40.
