Anyone who enjoys the Wood Brothers, the Black Lillies, Donna the Buffalo or Fruition, should make their way to Connecticut to enjoy Driftwood and Seth Walker perform at the FTC’s most intimate venue, Stage One May 19. Tickets are available for $25 on the FTC website. This will be one of the last chances to see Driftwood for a while as their tour is coming to a close. They will make one last stop in New York at the Ommegang Brewery in Cooperstown opening for Old Crow Medicine Show May 28.
Driftwood, from Binghamton, offers a variety of sounds, from folk to old-time, country, punk, and rock. They say their sound is open and find that is, “sometimes tough to keep any sort of focus on style or sound when you have three different songwriters,” said guitarist Dan Forsyth. They have four albums that prove that point very well. Their instrumentation across each one is similar but the attitude and moral of each song is relatively the same.
Seth Walker will open the night in Fairfield. He’s a well established artist and has received a great amount of recognition with one of his albums Gotta Get Back featured as a Billboard Top Blues Album. His style, although a bit different than Driftwood’s, should complement the headliner seamlessly. Walker boasts a more contemporary rock and blues tone while still managing to hold a wholesome and timeless sound.
Both groups have recently released albums that should be listened to before seeing their performances. It’s expected that they’ll both flaunt selections from their newest collections. Seth Walker’s latest is his critically acclaimed album, Gotta Get Back and Driftwood is tourning in support of City Lights.
