Syracuse Jazz Festival to Feature Performances by Todd Rundgren, Rebirth Brass Band, the Mavericks, Asleep At The Wheel

Performers were announced yesterday for the 35th annual Syracuse Jazz Fest. Touted as “The Northeast’s Largest Free Jazz Festival,” this year’s festival will include sets by Todd Rundgren, Rebirth Brass Band, and Asleep at the Wheel, Ramsey Lewis, The Mavericks, and Marc Broussard.

Additional performers at the the three-day festival include: Nick DiMaria & the Manhattan Jazz Alliance, UAD Kings of the Fall, Canen, and Soft Spoken Band.

While music is the centerpiece of the festival, they’ve also planned a fireworks display, an exhibit about the history of the jazz festival in the art gallery and screenings of “Miles Ahead,” “Miss Sharon Jones,” and “The Benny Goodman Story.”

This year’s festival is officially dedicated to Oscar L. Peterson, Jr, a longtime Syracuse Jazz Fest Board president & WAER-FM jazz DJ. Peterson passed away in October.

The free event takes place on the Onondaga Community College campus from June 8-10. For the schedule of events, profiles on musical acts, and more information, go to syracusejazzfest.com.
