New Orleans icons, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band are set to headline the Bridge Jazz Festival on February 24, 2017 at 7:30 PM, hosted by the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall. The Dirty Dozen Brass Band formed in 1977 as the house band of the Dirty Dozen Social and Pleasure Club, performing traditional funeral dirges and funky dance music for citizens in the streets of New Orleans, but have since risen to national prominence, having graced the albums of David Bowie, Elvis Costello, Dr. John, Widespread Panic, Dave Matthews Band, the Black Crowes, and Modest Mouse, while consistently pushing an evolving, future-leaning sound.
Joining the Dirty Dozen Brass Band will be the virtuosic piano prodigy, Eldar Djangirov, who was signed by Sony Masterworks at just 17 years old, and has worked with the likes of Dave Brubeck, Roy Hargrove, Joshua Redman, and Wynton Marsalis, in addition to composing a Grammy nominated album. Some critics have compared Eldar to Herbie Hancock and Art Tatum, while still others wonder if he dealt with the devil to get his chops.

On February 25, the festival moves to Albany’s Massry Center for the Arts at the College of Saint Rose, and begins at 7:00 p.m. The Chronicles, Albany’s own six-piece jazz/funk/hip-hop/soul band will share the stage with French vocalist Cyrille Aimee, and legendary saxophonist Maceo Parker, best known for his contributions with James Brown and Parliament-Funkadelic.
