Jason Isbell Playing the Landmark Theater

No matter what you think of the past year, it has been a great one for Jason Isbell. His 2015 release, Something More Than Free has won him two Grammy’s and more recently Album and Song of the Year at the Americana Music Honors, only losing out on Artist of the Year to Chris Stapleton. On a personal note he recently celebrated his daughter’s first birthday with his musician wife Amanda Shires, and is enjoying 3 years of the sober life.

Isbell’s music comes from a very personal space. Something More Than Free emerges as a more optimistic follow-up to his breakthrough album Southeastern. As personal as they are, the songs have a poetry to them that anyone can find common ground with. His southern-rock/country blend comes with a heavy nod to Neil Young, not the modern day definition of country rock. As he states it, “I don’t write songs to be played at sporting events.”

Isbell brings his band the 400 Unit, including Shires on fiddle, to the Landmark Theater Thursday night. Tickets are still available and range from $25.50 to $35.50. Another incredibly gifted songwriter, Josh Ritter, will open the show at 8pm. This amount of musical genius doesn’t grace the stage all that often in Syracuse. Get your weekend started early and come out and support this amazing show.
