Reggae and ska legends Toots and the Maytals recently announced a handful of dates across the United States. The Jamaican outfit will primarily stick to the West Coast, with only one East Coast date currently announced.
Toots and the Maytals will be performing at “Groovin in the Park” in Queens on June 26. Their tour kicks off on June 15 in San Diego.
In a press release announcing the tour, HIbbert said, “It has been a difficult three years. But I am very happy to be able to now get back together with my musical family and prepare to share my music once again with my incredible fans.”
Toots and the Maytals formed in 1963 in Kingston, Jamaica. Their 2004 album, True Love, won a Grammy for Best Reggae Album. The album featured collaborations of the band’s original music with Bonnie Raitt, Willie Nelson, Eric Clapton, Keith Richards, Trey Anastasio, No Doubt, Ben Harper, the Roots and Shaggy.
The group is best known for such hits as “54-46 That’s My Number,” “Pressure Drop,” “Monkey Man” and “Beautiful Woman.”
