Sting and Peter Gabriel Joining Forces for 19-Date Summer Tour

Thirty years after first performing together as part of the Amnesty International Tour, two of England’s rock royals will join forces this summer for a 19 city North American tour. Dubbed “Rock Paper Scissors,” the tour has Sting and Peter Gabriel hitting the road for a month-long jaunt across the continent, kicking off at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio on June 21 and wrapping in Edmonton on July 24.

The tour promises to be a crowd-pleaser, as each artist will take turns performing works from the other’s catalog, in addition to performing together. In a video announcing the tour, Sting states, “We want to sing a lot of hits basically, people want to hear the songs we’re famous for. But it’s always interesting to trade a song. … I’m not precious about giving him whatever he wants.”

According to Sting, the set lists have yet to be determined, but the plan is for both to open performing two songs together, followed by individual performances from each. The possibility for collaboration is something Gabriel is looking forward to, “What intrigues me is that you get a good bunch of musicians together and interesting things will happen.”

Sting’s idea for this tour came about after a similar tour performed with Paul Simon in 2014. In an interview with The Associated Press, Sting spoke of the Simon tour: “We traded musicians, we sang together. And the take home that people got from that was they loved it when we did things together.”

Ticket sales will be in two phases depending on where the show is taking place. Visit Gabriel’s website for more information. Pre-sale for the shows in Washington, Philadelphia, NYC-MSG, Toronto, Montreal, San Jose, Lake Tahoe, Los Angeles, Calgary & Edmonton begin today. All other shows have a pre-sale date of Jan. 26.
