This is Happening: LCD Soundsystem Reunites, Plans 2016 Tour

When Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival released its 2016 lineup featuring headliner LCD Soundsystem, the music community speculated that more was indeed in the works for the band.

In 2011, LCD Soundsystem played their last show as a group at Madison Square Garden, but after posting  “Christmas Will Break Your Heart” on their website during the 2015 holidays, rumors began to spark about the band reuniting.

Today LCD Soundsystem confirmed that the rumors were true — and that a new album is in the works — with frontman James Murphy penning a lengthy letter to fans via the band’s website and Facebook page:

let’s just start this thing finally with some clarity.i write songs all the time. sometimes they’re just weird songs…

Murphy notes that he contacted band members Pat Mahoney and Nancy Whang after deciding to record a score of new songs he had written, but was perplexed by what band name he should record under. And the Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter further locked in the band’s more permanent reformation by stating:

“we’re not just playing coachella. we’re playing all over. we’re not just having some reunion tour. we’re releasing a record (sometime this year—still working on it, actually), so this isn’t a victory lap or anything… this is just the bus full of substitute teachers back from their coffee break with new music and the same weird gear…”

Stay tuned for more updates on the band’s forthcoming album and tour dates.
