New Jersey’s punks, Titus Andronicus, issued the following upon announcing their spring tour:
“If I have one regret about 2015, it is that I didn’t enunciate more,” said Titus Andronicus vocalist Patrick Stickles, in a rare moment of lucidity. “I will be grateful for the opportunity to observe the verbal dexterity of Craig [Finn], night after night, so that I might learn some valuable lessons from one of rock’s great communicators.”
Titus Andronicus released its sprawling, 29-track rock opera The Most Lamentable Tragedy in June to critical acclaim and embarked on a tour to support. Never a band to rest on its laurels, the recently announced spring tour with Craig Finn promises to be an indie-rock fan’s dream.
In advance of the tour, Titus Andronicus released a string remix of “Fired Up.”
Stickles’ tongue-in-cheek comment about Finn bears quite a bit of truth. Finn, lead singer and writer of the Brooklyn-via-Minneapolis veteran indie rock outfit The Hold Steady, is one of his generation’s greatest storytelling lyricists.
The artists are not unknown to each other. Finn provided vocals to Titus Andronicus’s Civil War themed album The Monitor as the voice of Walt Whitman on the song “A Pot in Which to Piss.”
Finn released his second solo album, Faith in the Future on Sept. 11.
The tour begins in New York at the famed Webster Hall Feb. 29. Finn will not be present at the opener but will join Titus Andronicus when the tour gets into full swing at the Ottobar in Baltimore on March 1. New Yorkers looking to catch Finn’s solo tour can see him at The Appel Room at Lincoln Center Feb. 3.
Further New York dates include a three-day run of shows beginning at Buffalo’s Tralf Music Hall March 21. They then visit The Haunt in Ithaca and end the upstate jaunt on March 23 at The Hollow in Albany.
