With fewer than 90 days until the luxury floating venue MSC Divina sets sail from Miami, Jam Cruise 14 recently published the detailed music schedule so cruise-goers can accordingly plan for this year’s at-sea adventure that boasts an impressive lineup of artists including headliners Dr. John, Trombone Shorty, and Galactic.
Dumpstaphunk kicks off the five-day fest with a 7 p.m. bon voyage set on the Pool Deck, followed by Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue, Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, and Soulive rounding out the night with a 2 a.m. set. Night one also features the Infamous Stringdusters, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, and ALO in the Pantheon Theater, the Werks, Twiddle, and George Porter, Jr. in the Black and White Lounge, and Stanton Moore at the Golden Jazz Bar with Motion Potion at the Galaxy Disco and Nigel Hall performing in the ship’s Atrium.
Since day two of JC 14 is spent at sea, the day will be jam packed with music, beginning with a noon show on the Pool Deck with Cabinet and raging into the early morning hours with DJ Logic in the Galaxy Disco. Other acts around-the-clock include Nicki Bluhm and the Gramblers, JJ Grey and Mofro, Snarky Puppy, Lettuce, Galactic, and the New Mastersounds. The Brews, at Sea Stage,l will host phoffman and Anders Beck, Con Brio, and the Floozies, while Southern Soul Assembly, Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, and Lotus play the Pantheon Theater. TAUK and Adam Smirnoff take over the Black and White Lounge, Eric “Benny” Bloom at the Golden Jazz Bar with Nathan Moore, Zach Gill, and Zach Deputy hitting up other spots around the ship.
Day three begins with a stop in Belize City, Belize, and a 4:30 p.m. show time for the Infamous Stringdusters on the Pool Deck welcomes guests back onboard for a full evening of jams ending with DJ Otto spinning in the Galaxy Disco. Dr. John and the Nite Trippers, Brownout Presents Black Sabbath, and Electron take over the Pool Deck, while Zach Deputy and the Werks play the Brews at Sea Stage. Later on into the night Marco Benevento, Cabinet, and Eric McFadden are scheduled for sets in the Black and White Lounge, and Rayland Baxter and Mike Dillion take residence in the Golden Jazz Bar. Elsewhere around the ship Cory Henry and the Stanton Moore Trio will perform. From 9:30 p.m. to 4 a.m. in the Pantheon Theater, Dumpstaphunk, Soulive, and Lettuce will perform as part of the Royal Family Ball lineup.
On the fourth day of JC 14, cruisers can spend time in Cozumel, Mexico, before returning to the ship’s Pool Deck for Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe 5:30 p.m. set followed by the New Mastersounds, Keller Williams with More Than a Little, and Lotus. Cruise-goers can then selectively bounce around the other onboard stages to catch TAUK, Dr. John and the Nite Trippers, Anders Osborne, Snarky Puppy, Nicki Bluhm and the Gramblers, Worship My Organ, Nick Daniels, Marc Broussard, Bernard “Pretty” Purdle, Holly Bowling, and another late-night rager with DJ Logic.
The fifth and final at-sea experience offers an around-the-clock schedule of music. Twiddle will rock the boat with a 1:30 p.m. set before artists like ALO, Roosevelt Collier Super Jam, Anders Osborne, and Fearless by Electron: A Pink Floyd Tribute take over the Pool Deck. Cris Jacobs and Marco Benevento play the Brews at Sea Stage, Everyone Orchestra, JJ Grey and Mofro, Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue, and Galactic are featured artists for the Pantheon Theater, while the Floozies, Brownout, and Reed Mathis perform in the Black and White Lounge and Simon Allen in the Golden Jazz Bar. Ivan Neville and Keller Williams play solo in the ship’s Atrium, and Motion Potion will keep the party going into the morning light in the Galaxy Disco.
JC 14 will also offer cruisegoers the chance to upgrade their package with Masters Camp at Sea, an all-access pass that includes workshops, performances, jams and special guest sessions, expedited boarding, daily happy hours and entry to the Masters Camp Jam Room. (Plus-one passes are available, too.) Featured master artists are Stanley Jordan, Vernon Reid, George Porter, Jr., Melvin Seals, Johnny Vidacovich, Daniel Lamb, Ashish “Hash” Vyas and Jeffrey “Congo” Franca, plus guest masters Karl Denson, Stanton Moore, Eric Krasno, Eddie Roberts and Nigel Hall. Participants can priority board starting at 2 p.m. and then sail away with a happy hour meet and greet with the masters from 6 to 7 p.m. MCAS begins day two at noon with an all-stars master session before Hall presents The History of How to Get Funky! at 2 p.m. following with a group sit-in session and happy hour before the nightly participant open jam at 6 p.m. Roots of Reggae, hosted by Hash and Congo, takes place from 3:30 to 5 p.m. on day three and four, and the individual special guest sessions will feature Roberts, Denson, Moore and Krasno each evening throughout the remainder of the cruise. On the final day, MCAS closes with a one-hour private concert and happy hour starting at 6 p.m.
In addition to around-the-clock music, JC 14 has made sure to include a bevy of activities for all. Some highlights include Ivan Neville’s annual Texas Hold ‘Em poker tournament, bingo with the New Mastersounds and a door decorating contest judged by the Werks. More activities are soon to be announced.
At press time, JC 14 announced that 40 cabins remain available for the Jan. 6 to 11, 2016, event. Cruise-goers can map out music-filled plans-of-attack by scouring the full schedule, and while making plans, don’t forget that it’s not uncommon for artists to guest-jam with each other so be sure to keep all ears on deck for these rare sonic experiences.
