Participation Row will feature 17 nonprofits at GD50

Anyone heading to Chicago this weekend should consider stopping by Participation Row, a cluster of nonprofit booths headed up by HeadCount.

Seventeen nonprofits will be represented at Participation Row, which will be in the South Courtyard (the far endzone concourse) near gates 0-6 at Soldier Field, during the Fare Thee Well shows celebrating 50 years of the Grateful Dead Friday through Sunday.

The groups will range from Dead-affiliated groups like the Rex Foundation, Seva, Rainforest Action Network and the Unbroken Chain Foundation, to nonprofits that work with autism, GMOs, food availability, and psychedelic studies. Grateful Dead dummer Billy Kreutzmann invited environmental group Sufrider and marijuana advocacy group NORML.

HeadCount, which is heading up the effort, reaches out to music fans to help them register to vote. Bob Weir is on the organization’s board of directors.

Each station will have an action that fans can take,
and once they do, they will get one of four free, limited-edition postcards created by artists with strong ties to the Grateful Dead community. But only 2,500 of each are available, so don’t wait to head over!

Participation Row will also host a silent auction that will showcase the only pieces of Dead50 memorabilia signed by all seven performers, including a guitar Bob Weir played in Santa Clara last weekend, a signed drumhead, and signed posters. Auctions started in Santa Clara and will close during setbreak on July 5.
