If your idea of roughing it includes catered meals, access to the spa and a round of golf, the Hudson Valley Resort & Spa is up your alley. If you also get down to Fishbone, Easy Star All-Stars, Twiddle, and The Werks, you do not want to miss Rock ‘N’ Roll Resort v5: Electric Avenue.
The two-night music festival takes place from May 1-3 in Kerhonkson, New York, with a pre-party hosted by The Werks on Thursday, April 30 in nearby New Paltz. Located at the plush Hudson Valley Resort & Spa, only 90 miles north of NYC, this is not your ordinary fest. The aforementioned bands will be joined by dozens of others, playing continuous music on Friday and Saturday. Day-pass holders have all-access to the music and resort, while over-nighters will also receive food and lodging.
The Ohio-based Werks kick off the weekend of partying with a show at Oasis Café in New Paltz on Thursday night. If work prevents you from Werking on Thursday, they are scheduled for two more sets at the resort on Friday. Among many others playing Friday are Upstate-based Lucid and Boston’s own jam-band People With Instruments. New York City’s Consider the Source will light up Electric Avenue Middle-Eastern sci-fi style while the L.A. based alt-rockers in Fishbone headline the night.
Sleep comfortably in one of the resort’s many rooms and wake up Saturday for another full day of rockin’. Up-and-coming Upstate quartet Formula 5 will take the stage Saturday as well as Syracuse’s Sophistafunk. The Camp Creek All-Stars, featuring Max Creek’s Scott Murawski with Beau Sasser, Bill Carbone and Ed Mann, have their shot at electrifying the resort while Twiddle headlines the night’s bill with two sets. Music is scheduled to go until around 2 a.m.
If the music and spa cannot keep you occupied, there are plenty of other activities planned. Disc golf and mini golf tournaments are lined up for those who don’t bring the drivers and woods. The visual arts will also be celebrated throughout the weekend with live painters set up, a super collaboration piece planned, and spray paint sessions around the grounds. In some downtime, a walk around the property will offer spectacular views of the bucolic Hudson Valley. It is the renaissance time of year in the Northeast which means flowers should be blooming and the Valley greening.
