NYC Summer Stage’s Sizzling Schedule

If you’re in the Big Apple this summer, there will be plenty of opportunities to catch great shows—for free. Celebrating its 30th anniversary, the City Parks Foundation’s SummerStage features a variety of fantastic artists performing across New York City.

The series starts with a huge name on May 18 – Tedeschi Trucks Band plays Rumsey Playfield in the heart of Central Park. A couple weeks later, Upstate’s own The Felice Brothers shift boroughs, playing their style of folk rock in Brooklyn’s Red Hook Park.

Queens’ first shot at hosting a SummerStage event comes on Sunday June 7 as Charles Bradley & His Extraordinaires lay down the soul at Flushing Meadows in Corona Park. The following Saturday, Lettuce ushers the funk train back to Central Park. They will be joined by the Soul Rebels for a full Saturday of huge sound on the world’s biggest stage.

If rock is not your flavor, bring (just) a friend to check out Biz Markie on June 17 back in Brooklyn at the Herbert Von King Park. Or – if you prefer classical music – you will have the chance to enjoy The Metropolitan Opera on the same night at Brooklyn Bridge Park.

July’s highlights include a performance by George Clinton and Parliament Funkadellic on the 15th and a Dawes show on the 27th. August kicks off in style with Dr. John and Amy Helm back at Rumsey Playfield in Central Park. The Charlie Parker Jazz Festival takes place from August 21-23 and Lake Street Dive is scheduled for a big midweek show on September 2.
