Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival XRIJF Full Lineup

For 10 days every year Rochester’s East End is transformed into a music lover’s playground.

This week the Rochester International Jazz Fest released its full lineup, so we finally know what new “rides”, “swings” and “slides” will be exercising our ears and minds this year. Adding to the previously released headliners, Rochester’s own Steve Gadd will bring his band to celebrate his 70th birthday with an as yet known special surprise guest on June 26th. Tickets go on sale this Friday at 10am.

On the other end of the pricing spectrum, the free shows this year include the always fun Trombone Shorty returning for a fifth time, Blood Sweat and Tears featuring Bo Bice of American Idol fame, English funk mavens The New Mastersounds, gypsy guitar master Stephane Wrembel, Los Lonely Boys, the Mavericks and much more. Due to ongoing construction on the Inner Loop, the Alexander Street Stage will not be around this year – extending the schedule on the Chestnut Street Stage. And good news for the smaller Jazz Street Stage on Gibbs – food vendors will be moved up to Main Street freeing up much needed space for concert-goers there.

The Club Pass series, which is the heart and soul of the festival, includes 13 venues around the ever expanding footprint of the festival. This year, the former Abilene and Squeezers stages will be combined into a new Americana-themed venue in the Sibley Building. Additionally a new venue will be added at the First Church of Christ, Scientist on East Avenue. This 1000-capacity intimate acoustic-only solo concert venue will feature an early show daily from 4-5PM – giving festival-goers will have a reason to get downtown even earlier this year. Who needs to work that week?!

Some of the Club Pass highlights include: Bass legend and master Stanley Clarke, the more contemporary bassist extraordinaire Chris Wood and his band The Wood Brothers, the return of mesmerizing vocalist Cécile McLorin Salvant, New Orleans brass band Soul Rebels, the electric and eclectic Kneebody, Eivind Opsviks Overseas featuring cant-miss Kenny Wollesen on drums, Kat Edmonson’s perfect blend of jazz folk and pop, prolific NYC trumpeter Dave Douglas, a top-notch Americana lineup featuring Peter Rowan, The Seldom Scene and Chatham County Line and much more. Below is the full lineup of artists. Don’t be discouraged if many names look unfamiliar, because it just goes with the festival’s mantra, It’s not who you know, it’s who you don’t know. And an addendum – when in doubt, head for the Nordic Stage and keep an open mind. For tickets, full schedules and everything else visit RochesterJazz.com
