If your Friday night plans are still up in the air, downtown Cortland has you covered. Main Street Live continues its return this week with a free outdoor concert featuring Syracuse funk favorites Sophistafunk and local jam band Dead & Friends on Friday, July 17, from 6-9 p.m. at the Marketplace Mall lot (64-76 Main Street).
Dead & Friends kick things off at 6 p.m. before Sophistafunk takes the stage. Admission is completely free.

For years, the former Main Street Music Series was a summer tradition in Cortland, bringing neighbors, families, and music fans downtown on Friday nights. Now reintroduced as Main Street Live, the series is bringing that same community energy back to Main Street with four weeks of free live music throughout July.
This week’s lineup might be its biggest draw yet.

Fresh off festival stages across the country, Sophistafunk has built a reputation as one of Central New York’s most energetic live acts. Blending funk, hip-hop, soul, jam, and dance music into one nonstop party, the genre-defying trio has rocked everything from Electric Forest and Camp Bisco to BoomTown and Shambala in the UK – While also making appearances on Food Network alongside Guy Fieri.

Opening the evening is Dead and Friends– Their sets are unpredictable in the best way. The lineup features CNY natives Evan Geibel and Aaron Fumerola, along with Jordan Del Rosario, known both for his previous work with the indie-psych group Cheers Elephant and for founding the band Dead and Friends on his eastward journey back from the west coast. Jordan’s return to Central New York has added a spark to the band’s sound and to the local music scene itself. Keith Lindner, Nina Pelligra, Brandon Morse and Cooper Francis complete the dead + friends lineup!
GIVEAWAY ALERT: Win 2 tickets to the Dead and Friends – JERRY GARCIA Birthday 8/1 WESTCOTT THEATRE SHOW – Enter on their facebook and instagram pages. Winners chosen July 24.

Whether you’re grabbing dinner downtown beforehand, or simply looking for an excuse to spend a summer evening outside, Main Street Live offers one of the easiest ways to experience the local music scene without spending a dime.

Friday’s show is just one stop in a month-long celebration of live music downtown. Main Street Live wraps up the season on July 24 with Soul Rising and All Good, before closing things out on July 31 with Mike Powell & The Echosound and Dry County Welders. Every concert is free, runs from 6-9 p.m., and continues the mission of bringing great live music back to the heart of Cortland while encouraging the community to shop, dine, and spend summer evenings downtown.
