Athens Riverfront Park will be filled with lawn chairs and picnic blankets as the Athens Summer Concert Series kicks off a season of free concerts.
This annual musical celebration begins July 18, with shows starting at 7 p.m. Concerts are held each Friday evening throughout the summer season until September 5.
This year’s lineup features an impressive slate of diverse performers. Kick-starting the series is Superunknown, a Soundgarden tribute band. Up next is rock-blues trio The Cold Stares, with rock & roll legend Les Dudek performing August 1, Southern rock Quintet Robert Jon & The Wreck August 8, and hard-hitting Southern rock band The Georgia Thunderbolts rounding out the first month of performances that promise to be nothing short of unforgettable.
Internationally renowned blues-rock guitarist Ana Povic takes the stage on August 22, followed by boundary-pushing ensemble The Lao Tizer Band. Closing out this season’s summer concert series is Australian guitar prodigy Taj Farrant.
