The 2020 Syracuse Area Music Awards (SAMMYS) induction ceremony and awards show have been scheduled for March 5 and 6. The annual Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place upstairs at the Dinosaur Bar-B-Que on Willow Street in Syracuse on March 5 and the awards ceremony will be the following day at the Palace Theater on James Street.
Area musicians who have released a commercially available recording in the 2019 calendar year are eligible to submit material for consideration beginning Dec. 1 through the SAMMYS website here.
Last year’s Hall of Fame inductees included Lou Reed, radio personality Scott Dixon and music educator and trombonist Melissa Gardiner. Past honorees have included moe., promoter Stacey Waterman, Savoy Brown, Masters of Reality founder Chris Goss and 805.
Submissions for the four People’s Choice categories will begin Jan. 1. The public is encouraged to submit nominees for favorite local artist, favorite live music venue, favorite music series or festival, and new this year, favorite academic or musical organization. The online voting for People’s Choice will begin on Jan. 14 here.
Since its inception in 1993, the Syracuse Area Music Awards has been Syracuse’s biggest celebration of local music each year. With over 30 awards presented in a variety of categories and musical performances throughout the ceremony, it becomes a veritable who’s who of the local music industry each year.
