Funk ‘n Waffles Downtown Hosting Two Blues Nights

Funk ‘n Waffles Downtown on Clinton Street in Syracuse is running a Tuesday series of blues shows featuring Jimmy Wolf on guitar, Emanuel Washington (Sophistafunk, Skunk City) on drums and Billy Harrison (Jess Novak Band) on bass. The first of two shows is Tuesday, Nov. 7, beginning at 9:00 p.m. The second show is Tuesday, Nov. 21.

Wolf is an acclaimed blues guitarist fluent in the Delta and Chicago sounds. He mixes those styles with the sounds of ’50s R&B to create an powerful and energetic set. He has been awarded Best Blues Releaseand Best Male Artist by the Native American Music Awards and has toured across the country with his band, the Jimmy Wolf Band.

As a member of Syracuse-based soul and hip-hop unit, Sophistafunk, Washington has toured extensively across the U.S. and in the U.K. They also earned a fan in the Food Network’s Guy Fieri, who came across them during a taping of his Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives show. Fieri liked the band so much, he enlisted them to perform on the show Guy’s Grocery Games and they also played the host’s 45th birthday party.

Harrison plays bass for the Syracuse-based Jess Novak Band. JNB has a new album entitled Fireworks & Fairytales set for release Nov. 10. They’re celebrating the release with a show that same night at the Turquoise Tiger at the Turning Stone Resort.
