Dopapod Announces New Album ‘Megagem,’ New Year’s Eve Run

Toying around with guessing album title palindromes, fans have been passing the time and patiently waiting for a fifth Dopapod studio album to emerge. Back in June, NYS Music got an inside tip from Chuck Jones and Rob Compa themselves at Disc Jam, divulging that the quartet would add strings, cellos and violins to their newest release.

On Aug. 30, Dopapod finally chimed in on Instagram by uploading segments of their album artwork, a promotional puzzle, which finally pieced together a psychedelic, cerebral piece of art featuring their well-known logo, a galactic backdrop and the title Megagem detailed across the artwork’s footer.

It’s no surprise Megagem will follow the suit of their four previous studio albums and two live albums, 2009’s debut, Radar, 2012’s Drawn Onward and Redivider, 2014’s Never Odd or Even as well as I Saw Live Dopapod, Evil Was I and II Saw Live Dopapod, Evil Was II, keeping the palindrome trend alive and well. The group even joined in on the fun and jokingly announced the fifth studio album would be titled “Mom.”

Megagem news follows recent announcements of updated Fall Tour dates as well as the drop of two New Year’s gigs.  Compa, Jones, Neal Evans and Eli Winderman will tackle Fall 2017  accompanied by Lespecial, Earphorik and The Motet with a holiday treat planned at Saratoga Springs’ Putnam Den on Oct. 31, sandwiched in the middle.

The New Year’s announcements surprised, with two stacked nights of music to ring in the new year. Kick off New Year’s Eve eve, with Dopapod, Hayley Jane and the Primates and Swimmer at Fete Musical Hall in Providence, RI on Dec. 30 before gearing up for a total of three Dopapod sets on the 31st at Boston’s Paradise Rock Club.

Tickets are available now for all shows on the fall tour. For more information on Dopapod’s fall tour and New Year’s shows, visit their website.
