Pearlpalooza Offers Fun in the Sun to End Summer

Pearlpalooza returns to North Pearl Street in Downtown Albany on Saturday, Sept. 16, for it’s eighth annual event. The free, family friendly event is open to all ages, and presented by the Real Alternative WEQX, the Downtown Albany BID, Sugar Productions, O’Connell & Aronowitz, and Remarkable Liquids.

Performing at this year’s event include K. Flay, Rubblebucket, Arkells, Colony House, Kimono Dragons, and the winner of the upcoming Lucky Strike Social’s “Battle Of The Bands,” which will open the festivities. Several craft and food vendors will be on hand as well. No outside food or drinks allowed. Palooza goers can bring a small folding chair to the event.

Two stages will be positioned along North Pearl Street between Steuben Street, and Pine Street. The event is scheduled to start earlier than in past years. There will be an acoustic garden type chill area at Stacks Expresso Bar on Broadway, a Yoga session, and a cornhole tournament. WEQX will announce more details soon about those activities.

Lucky Strike Social will host a “Battle Of The Bands,” to determine who will kick things off Sept. 16. The contest will be held mid July, and will run four weeks, with a grand finale to top it off. All shows will be free and crowd participation will help determine the winner for each week.

K. Flay will headline the event. K. Flay says she’s still trying to figure out her sound, as she head bangs to her style of indie hip hop meets electronic. Her second studio album, Everywhere Is Some Where, was released in April 2017. Some of her music has appeared in video games such as Need For Speed Rivals, and Fifa 16, along with movie soundtracks XXX Return Of Zander Cage, and This Is The End. Flay is slated open for the Imagine Dragons’ upcoming fall “Evolve” tour, which will make a stop at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn on Oct. 23.
