Scotty Zwang Has a New Gig

RAQ has a new drummer. Scotty Zwang, a native New Yorker, who most recently played with Dopapod, and formerly with Sonic Spank and Greenhouse Lounge, will replace Neal “Fro” Evans on the skins. Meanwhile Evans has been announced as Dopapod’s new “old” drummer, returning to the seat he occupied previously, and thus completing the rarely seen drummer-for-drummer trade-off. Eat your heart out, Theo Epstein.

Zwang will join bassist Jay Burwick, guitarist Chris Michetti, and keyboardist Todd Stoops in authoring the next chapter of RAQ’s storied improvisational career. Having played with Stoops before, in BangBang, Without a Net (a Grateful Dead tribute band), and Cosmik Playground (a Frank Zappa tribute band), and with Michetti in Conspirator, Zwang’s versatile technique will help put the RAQ train back on the tracks. And the new lineup will get right at it, as a fresh crop of show dates has already been announced.

Fans, don’t miss an opportunity to catch the first of what is sure to be many spellbinding performances to come. Syracuse’s Westcott Theatre will host the first show on Dec. 15, then the foursome will join fellow Vermonters Twiddle at the Capitol Theater in Port Chester on Dec. 16, and finish the run at the Thunder Road Music Club in Boston, MA on Dec. 17.
