Updated: Hulaween 2016 Announces Costume Themes and Surprise Artists

Updated 9/23/2016:

Suwannee Hulaween promoters announced that this year’s costume theme will be “Stringier Things,” which celebrates vintage 1980’s supernatural horror/pop culture. The theme was inspired by the Netflix show, Stranger Things, and should hopefully inspire some freakishly cool costumes.

The festival line-up was also garnished by some great surprise additions, like Russo, Benevento & Burbridge, an RB&B supergroup comprised of drummer Joe Russo, keyboardist Marco Benevento and bass player Oteil Burbridge; Oh Wonder, a London-based indie pop/duo; and Brooklyn’s own Antibalas, an afrobeat/jazz ensemble.

The initial lineup for this year’s Suwannee Hulaween has dropped and, in addition to three nights of the String Cheese Incident, includes many heavy-hitters like My Morning Jacket, Umphrey’s McGee and Greensky Bluegrass.

The String Cheese Incident will bring their Hulaween festival back to the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, Florida Oct. 28 to 30. The lineup this year is a who’s who of top funk, electronica and bluegrass acts with Disclosure, STS9, Lettuce and Big Gigantic featuring the Motet. Also in the lineup is Les Claypool’s latest project with Sean Lennon, the Claypool Lennon Delirium. Other big names include Rebelution, Logic and Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe. The Motet will also play their own set during the fest.

In addition to funk act Lettuce, New York is represented by electronic artist Gramatik and progressive jazz fusion band Snarky Puppy.

As usual, the String Cheese Incident will play all three nights of the festival and include a special themed Halloween set with cover debuts, costumes and many surprises. Fans can also expect the return of Spirit Lake, the interactive multimedia art exhibit.

Last year’s Hulaween saw triple the expected number of attendees. To improve the experience for everyone, ticket sales are being limited to 20,000. Tickets are on sale now and start at $189 for early bird general admission. Attendees can also choose from five levels of VIP experiences that range in price from $399 to $3000. Early bird prices end as each allotment of tickets for the various levels sells out.
