Entering its 10th year at the Twin Ponds Campsite in Peru, Backwoods Pondfest is a weekend featuring a wide variety of bands and unique activities. Aside from the fun lineup, fans will be treated to such activities as fire spinning, yoga classes, hula hoop classes and even disc golf on August 5 and 6 in northern New York. not far from Plattsburgh.
Headlining the weekend is Melvin Seals & JGB. Seals was Jerry Garcia’s keyboardist from 1980 through 1995, and his band focuses on Garcia’s vast catalog of songs outside of the Grateful Dead. Pink Talking Fish, which puts together really creative setlists comprising Pink Floyd, Talking Heads and Phish songs, are performing. The band has been touring relentlessly and continuing to impress fans and critics alike.
Pondfest is, for all intents and purposes, Lucid’s festival. The North Country band plays it each year and was instrumental in helping it grow. The band recently took an undetermined amount of time off, but will be at the pond for two performances throughout the weekend, and who knows how many sit ins will occur.
Billed as Mihali and Friends, Mihali Savoulidis, Twiddle guitarist and songwriter, is another of the headliners. In a very brief interview on Sunday, Savoulidis said his friends — or is it frends? — haven’t all been set.
“We’re not locked in just yet, but I will let you know,” he said. “There are so many amazing musicians in town for Tumbledown and they are all my friends. The show is gonna be nuts but we’re keeping the lineup under wraps for now. There will be a ton of musicians popping on and off the stage all night like a rotating lineup of awesomeness.”
Spiritual Rez, the NTH Power, Sophistafunk, Blind Owl Band and Gang of Thieves are other bands we’re very excited to see perform. Mister F, Tweed, Hayley Jane and the Primates and Formula 5 are just a smattering of the collage of bands playing that weekend.
