Syracuse Prepares for Jazzy Holiday Weekend with 34th Annual Jazz Festivities

As this weekend’s holiday events begin with cookouts, parades and fireworks, take a few moments to celebrate another annual annul event by stopping by Onondaga Community College for the Syracuse Jazz Fest. Celebrating its 34th year, this annual event brings both national and local jazz, blues, swing, pop and Americana artists to the area and offers something for everyone to enjoy.

Kicking off Saturday’s lineup, you’ll be treated to locals NOTEified with Special Guest Julia Goodwin. The All Star Jazz Fest Tribute to Mark Murphy will follow at 6 p.m., honoring local musician Mark Murphy’s impact on Central NY’s music scene.  The Mavericks follow at 7:45 p.m. with headliner Michael McDonald immediately following at 9:30 p.m.;  rounding out the evening will be the fireworks celebration.

Sunday jazz festivalgoers will be treated to the local City of Syracuse Department of Parks and Recreation All Star Band at 4 p.m., the Second Line Syracuse Brass Band at 5 p.m., and locals Groove Legacy at 6:30 p.m. At 8:30 p.m. Larry Coryell and the Eleventh House will shred their way into your hearts while NOLA’s own Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue will round out this epic event with his jazzy set.

Admission to this family friendly event is free to concertgoers, with minimal charges for parking only. Vendors will be present as well; however, please make sure to view the venue policies on the Syracuse Jazz Fest site before attending to make your evening the best it can possibly be. NYS Music is excited to be an official sponsor this year, and we hope to see you all there.
