Top 10 Reasons to get Excited for Disc Jam

There is a place where happy people of all ages gather for a weekend to experience unique music, sports, art and a healthy obsession for the pineapple, and where cows are your neighbors and security is your friend. It’s Disc Jam Music Festival and it’s only a few days away.

From a generously stacked lineup to a plethora of activities, this small festival held in Stephentown, NY, June 9 through 12 has a loyal fan base ready to head to the New York/Massachusetts border—and for good reasons. Here are the top 10:

1. The Bands
Disc Jam is welcoming back prog-rock jammers Dopapod for Friday and Saturday night. Saturday night will be the “Dopapod Orchestra,” and what exactly that entails we are not sure, but we’re dying to find out.

Friday night features Electron comprised of Marc Brownstein and Aron Magner of the Disco Biscuits, Mike Greenfield of Lotus and Tom Hamilton of various groups including Brother’s Past and Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, as well as American Babies—also on the lineup. Be prepared to get down with Wu Tang’s Cappadona with full band, Kung Fu, the Nth Power, The Funky Dawgz Brass Band,  Consider the Source doing a full Radiohead set, Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band, Tauk, Aqueous, Pink Talking Fish, Gubbilidis, Formula 5 and so many more. 2. The Location
Disc Jam is located on Gardner’s Farm in Stephentown, NY. It’s right on the border of Massachusetts, about 30 minutes from Albany. That puts it about two-and-a-half hours from Boston and three hours from New York. The farm features plush grass to camp on and walking distance to a convenient store should you need additional supplies. In addition Gardner’s Farm includes a full service diner and free mini golf. Nestled in a valley with big skies, a beautiful stream and woods for exploring—nature has delivered a great spot for a festival.

3. Disc Golf Tournament
Hence the name of the festival, Disc Jam features a nine-hole disc golf course all within earshot of the music so you won’t miss a thing. The course is open to all, novices to pros. Sponsored by Innova Championship Discs, the course will be open for free play Thursday afternoon and all day Friday. Saturday and Sunday will feature two distinct tournaments. Bring your own discs or borrow theirs.

4. Late Night
If you’re not ready to call it quits by 1 a.m., Disc Jam has you covered with bands and DJs. The Woods Stage will feature  Govinda, Space Jesus, Brightside and so many more. For the super late night action be sure to check out the Silent Disco until 4 a.m.

5. Artist Collective
The Disc Jam Artist Collective is a talented group of artists invited to both display their work and to create it on site. A feast for the eyes!

6. Flow Tribe
Sexy and insanely talented humans tossing hoops and spinning fire. It’s hard to look away.

7. Workshops and Yoga
Make sure to exercise the mind, body and soul. Festival-goers will have the opportunity for multiple yoga sessions each morning. In addition, learn to hoop, play with poi, master the drum or simply meditate. There’s something for everyone.

8. Vendors
The Vendor Marketplace features both craft and food vendors. Craft vending merchants will be selling quality handmade goods, gemstones, musical instruments and art. Food vendors will be serving traditional fair favorites, comfort food, vegetarian and vegan cuisine and various beverages—boozy and non-alcoholic options available.

9. Community Bonfire
There will be a big community bonfire available for all festival-goers. Perfect for keeping warm late at night and meeting new people.

10. Relaxed Environment
One of the greatest things about Disc Jam is how incredibly chill it is. Security is on site to help keep everyone safe. They are not there to violate or police you. Be mindful and respectful.
