Zac Brown Band Taking a ‘Highway 20 Ride’ Across Upstate This Summer

The last time the Zac Brown Band was in upstate New York, it sold out the Carrier Dome in Syracuse. Friday, the band announced its Black Out the Sun tour, and plenty of New York sheds are on the itinerary.

The Atlanta-based band hit the big time with its song “Chicken Fried,” a song originally recorded by the band in 2003 for the band’s debut album. But, as Brown revealed in Dave Grohl’s Sonic Highways series for HBO, fame did not come easy.

In 2006, Brown allowed the country band The Lost Trailers to record the song, provided it was not released as a single. When The Lost Trailers scored a record deal, Sony Nashville decided “Chicken Fried” was the song they wanted to release as a single. Brown had his lawyer issue a cease-and-desist order and the song was pulled from radio. Brown’s version of the song eventually reached number one on the country charts in October 2008, and he and his band have since gone on to win three Grammy Awards and sell out venues across the country since.
