Gang of Thieves Hits the Hollow, Funk ‘N Waffles

This Friday the Vermont funk-rock group Gang of Thieves will return to the Hollow in Albany with supporting acts Nine Votes Short and the Bonnets, and they’ll visit Syracuse in March.

The band kicked off their winter 2016 tour in Stowe, VT, on Jan. 15, making stops in Lake Placid and the Southern states before heading back Northeast. This current 25-date run also includes shows in Syracuse and their hometown of Burlington, plus an appearance at the StrangeCreek Campout in Greenfield, Massachusetts, in May.

The Green Mountain rockers — Michael Reit (vocals, violin), Nick Wood (guitar), Sean Kehoe (guitar), Tobin Salas (bass), Nate Reit (trombone) and James Ralls (drums) — note influences ranging from Red Hot Chili Peppers and Sublime to Rage Against the Machine and Led Zeppelin, and released a four-track EP called Mantra last April. A follow-up to 2014’s Thunderfunk, Gang of Thieves has been working on original music for their upcoming album (to be recorded and produced by Steve Jankowski) and will be playing this new material on the road.

The Albany-based four-piece skate-punk band Nine Votes Short consists of Jon Delong (lead vocals), Dalton Lyons (guitar, vocals), Kevan Wiegand (bass, vocals) and Mike Lanni (drums, vocals). The group released a two-song sampler almost a year ago with the promise that new music is on the way. The Bonnets, a three-piece “punkadelic” outfit from Lyndonville, Vermont, features Albin Defreittas (lead guitar), Nick Morelli (lead vocals, bass) and Devin VanDervoort (drums). They will open for Passafire and the Expendables at Burlington’s Higher Ground on March 26.

Tickets for the Friday, Feb. 26 Twiddle afterparty concert at the Hollow can be purchased through Gang of Thieves’ website; doors open at 8 p.m. and guarantee a night packed with high-energy grooves.
