Dave Matthews Band Announces 2016 Tour, Hiatus for 2017

Dave Matthews Band announced dates for its summer 2016 tour Monday, while also announcing it will be taking a break from touring in 2017.

This will be the band’s second hiatus. Band members also took 2011 off from touring, except for four mini-festivals they held throughout the country.

But before that, get your fill of DMB with this year’s 25th anniversary tour. It hits the road May 11 in Wichita, Kansas, and concludes Labor Day weekend with three shows at the Gorge Amphitheater in George, Washington. New York dates include Jones Beach in Wantagh June 21, the new Lakeview Amphitheater in Syracuse June 22 and Saratoga Performing Arts Center July 15 and 16.

The Syracuse show marks a major coup for the newly built amphitheater along the shore of Onondaga Lake. The venue opened Labor Day weekend last year with a performance by country star Miranda Lambert. Building a centrally located amphitheater that could attract artists similar to the ones hosted by Darien Lake Performing Arts Center, Saratoga Performing Arts Center and Finger Lakes Performing Arts Center is something local leaders had in mind when proposing the build. With the addition of a summer DMB show, the new venue has firmly planted its foot in the waters previously reserved by those long time venues.
