WEQX Independent Radio Station Tower Down

As of Tuesday morning, 102.7 WEQX The Real Alternative radio station’s tower was taken down by the high winds and ice storm that powered through the Green Mountains.

The station’s programming director told CBS6 Albany that a temporary antennae will be constructed tomorrow; however, the broadcast radius will be smaller. The photograph shown below pictures the damaged 50,000 watt transmitter atop Mt. Equinox.

WEQX took to its social media channels to inform and update fans about the signal loss, with followers showing an outpouring of support for the station. Some wishing good luck and offering sentiments of get well soon and miss you, while others inquired about starting crowdfunding campaigns and volunteer opportunities for the cause.

Located in Manchester, WEQX has been independently owned and operated since 1984 and can be heard in Vermont, New York, Massachusetts and New Hampshire. The Real Alternative has been dubbed “Radio Station of the Year” by Rolling Stone, Albany Times Union and Metroland.

The station reported that it will have a new tower up as soon as possible, but in the meantime, encourage listeners to tune in via live streaming through the website and apps.
