Hailing from Florida, rising afro-pop, indie-rock band the Hip Abduction will release their sophomore album Gold Under the Glow this spring.
According to the press release announcing the album’s debut, Gold Under the Glow “captures the high-energy of the Hip Abduction’s signature sound but with an added indie rock twist” with the band placing a “heavy emphasis on African stringed instruments (kora, ngoni) mixed with dub-reggae bass lines and funky afro-beat percussion.”

The six-piece outfit — David New (vocals, guitar), Pat Klemawesch (kora, percussion, vocals), Chris Powers (bass), Dave Johnson (bari sax, tenor sax), Paul Chlapowski (keyboard) and Matt Poynter (drums, vocals) — recorded GUTG in Nashville with producer Dabney Morris (Wild Cub) after a successful Kickstarter campaign.
In 2013 the band released a self-titled album that received nationwide attention after being played on Sirius XM radio and landed a No. 5 spot on the Billboard reggae charts. And the Hip Abduction most recently shared the bill with the String Cheese Incident, Pretty Lights, Primus and more top-name acts during Suwannee Hulaween 2015.

The Hip Abduction‘s full-length album is set to drop on March 11, and the St. Petersburg-based group will headline an East Coast tour to promote the new record following several dates in support of the Expendables and Zach Deputy. While the track “Come Alive” can now be heard on JamOn, THA’s first official single “Before We Lose Our Minds” will be released in January.
