Newgrass fan-favorite Railroad Earth recently released dates for an upcoming nationwide “wintour” with a few stops in the land of the ice and snow.
After this year’s fifth annual Hangtown Halloween Ball and a New Year’s Eve run in Chicago, the New Jersey-based RRE will kick off the 29-date itinerary on Jan. 14 in Atlanta before stopping at New York City’s PlayStation Theater (formerly Best Buy Theater) on March 5. The NYC show features the band’s only announced special guest Cabinet, a rising “slamgrass” six-piece outfit from Appalachian Pennsylvania that will make its Jam Cruise debut in early 2016.
With only one stop in New York state this tour, Northeast fans have three more chances to catch RRE: Philadelphia on March 10 following a two-night stand in Washington D.C. In April, the sextet—Todd Sheaffer, Tim Carbone, John Skehan, Andy Goessling, Carey Harmon and Andrew Altman—heads to Squaw Valley, California, to headline the Winter Wonder Grass Festival with Greensky Bluegrass.
RRE’s last performance in the Empire State was at Paper Mill Island in Baldwinsville this summer in support of Warren Haynes‘ latest album Ashes and Dust—the Gov’t Mule frontman’s third solo record that features a more folk-driven musical backdrop thanks to collaborators, Railroad Earth.
To date, RRE dropped its seventh album Last of the Outlaws on the band’s own label Black Bear Records in 2014, and it was quickly lauded as one of RRE’s strongest compilations. While news of a follow-up release have yet to be whispered, winter tour-goers can expect setlists that fall right in tune with the band’s extensive repertoire of songs that can remain as solid as the studio cut or be jammed out to reach even higher blue-sky, bounce-along territory.
As stated on RRE’s website, a short supply of tickets for these upcoming concerts come with a free show download. Don’t miss out on the limited Northeast dates.
