Wilco’s Solid Sound Festival to take over Mass MOCA

Wilco’s Solid Sound Festival — a perfect fusion of music and art –is making its return to Mass MoCA in North Adams, Mass. this year from June 26 through 28. The festival is set up throughout the museum with special art exhibits representing the music at the festival, as well as a packed musical schedule featuring Wilco and other acts.

As curators of the festival, the members of Wilco are enmeshed throughout the program, with its members playing in various side projects. One of these incarnations is the Autumn Defense, featuring John Stirratt and Pat Sansone. Along with The Windy Hills, they will play tribute to the surfing cult classic, Morning of the Earth — a performance not to be missed by a fan of surfing, music or nature in general.

There are many other things Solid Sound offers that other festivals do not. Circus Smirkus is one example.  Since 1987, The Vermont Based troupe has been promoting  skills, culture and traditions of the traveling circus to influence the youth to become involved with circus arts.  If the circus isn’t your thing then maybe baseball is. Patrons will have the opportunity to have a catch with members of the Steeplecats, a collegiate  summer baseball team that calls North Adams home.

Real Estate and Cibo Matto  will play on “Harmonium Mountain” Friday and Saturday, respectively. Tweedy, NRBQ, Taj Mahal, Richard Thompson Trio and Mac Demarco are some of the headliners. In addition to the great music, the festival also features the John Hodgmans Big Comedy Thing on Saturday, spotlighting comics such as Tig Notaro, Paul F. Tompkins, Jessica Williams and Superego.
