When Steve Aoki takes the stage at Turning Stone Casino the last night in January you will want to be ready for anything. You can count on hearing remixes of popular songs by Eminem, Kayne West, Bassnectar, and even the Jackson 5. You can also count on seeing a cake or two being tossed around. White, fluffy cake with sweet sugary frosting. The idea of which came to Aoki in a dream over two years ago, and with over 1000 cakes being tossed into the audience – it’s still going strong. Don’t worry, sometimes a little champagne is sprayed, too – it helps wash the cake down.
Steve Aoki may be considered the jester of House but his dubs and mixes stand on their own. Mixmag recently ranked him as the No. 3 DJ in the world while readers of DJ Mag voted him No. 15. More importantly, he received his first Grammy nomination in early December. Wonderland, a collection of electro and dubstep tunes, is up for Best Dance/Electronica Album — against such heavyweights as Deadmau5, Kaskade, Skrillex, and The Chemical Brothers.
Still not convinced about Aoki? You can watch him being broadcast to the world when he performs at the NFL Pro-Bowl, January 27th – just 4 days before he is in Verona, performing for Upstate NY. Opening up for Steve Aoki will be Mat Zo, DSK CHK and DVDJ Dread.
