Moon Hooch Announces Third Album

Perennial subway buskers Moon Hooch have announced the release of their third album, Red Sky, due to drop June 10.

The horn and percussion trio made its mark busking in the subways and parks of New York City, mixing elements of indie rock, jazz and EDM. The new album evolves from the band’s roots while still maintaining the do-it-yourself mentality applied to previous releases.

The band has been heavily inspired by electronic dance music but has gone to great lengths to keep the sound of its live show a part of the recording. Very little in the way of studio manipulation has gone into the production of Red Sky, and fans will recognize the signature Moon Hooch sound throughout.

Horn player Wenzl McGowen discussed the Moon Hooch philosophy:

What we discovered playing in the subway is that the more focus and the more energy you put into the music, and the more you listen to everything around you and integrate everything around you into your expression, the more the music becomes this captivating force for people.

To witness Moon Hooch is to witness an exercise in originality. The band’s sophomore release, This is Cave Music, received rave reviews from critics. NPR described it as “unhinged” and “irresistible,” praising each musician’s “remarkable abilities” and naming their Tiny Desk Concert one of the best in the prestigious series’ history.

The lead single “Psychotubes” is available as a free download from Moon Hooch’s website. You can catch them on tour now:
