The Starting Line releases new music and announces select tour dates

After eight years, the Starting Line fans got what they wanted: new music from the band with the release of their new EP Anyways. Since they went on hiatus in 2008, the band has continued their annual holiday Philadelphia-area shows, but they haven’t released any new music until now.

This three-song EP was made for the band themselves and for fans. Not that someone who hasn’t listened to the band before might not appreciate it, but this EP wasn’t meant to stand on its own. It feels more like a thread that will pull together their old material with what comes next from them.

Anyways doesn’t reflect a new or groundbreaking sound for the band, but it does pack a punch and has a more forceful and assertive feel to it compared to their previous releases, Say It Like You Mean It and Based On A True Story. The EP also demonstrates how band members have evolved as both musicians and people.

On a side note, fans will be happy to hear a cleaned up studio version of “Luck” is included on the EP. Terrible low-quality versions have been floating around online for a number of years, and they have not done this song justice.

Here’s hoping this isn’t the last of the new tunes coming from the Starting Line. Dedicated fans want to see a full-length from the band, but aren’t complaining. They will take everything the Starting Line has left to give.

Along with their new EP release, the band announced they will join two shows on the RockstarThe Starting Line Anyways EP Energy Drink Taste of Chaos Festival featuring Dashboard Confessional and Taking Back Sunday. One of them will be the Philly show on June 19, and the other will be the July 16 show in San Bernadino, California. Tickets for Philly are on sale now, and the San Bernadino show goes on sale on April 1.
