U.S. Navy Band Chorus Sails Through Upstate, Free Concerts

Celebrating 91 years of service, the official United States Navy Band will treat audiences across the state to free performances this April. The Sea Chanters are billed to perform in Fredonia, Houghton, Auburn, Burnt Hills and at the Palace Theatre in Albany during the group’s upcoming 20-date tour.

The 20-voice chorus from Washington, D.C., is well known for moving patriotic renditions, Broadway show tunes and contemporary music. The U.S. Navy Sea Chanters are led by Chief Musician Adam Tyler and accompanied by a three-piece rhythm section. In 2010, the chorus released their most recent recording, American Odyssey.

The Sea Chanters often perform for the president, vice president and other important dignitaries, and have shared the stage with Perry Como, Marian Anderson, Kenny Rogers and Lionel Richie. The ensemble has appeared on “Larry King Live,” “CBS This Morning” and at the movie premier of Pearl Harbor. But most importantly, the band is called on to inspire the nation with song during times of celebration and mourning. The Navy Band has performed at the funerals of many former presidents, and comforted the world with “Amazing Grace” at the National Cathedral in Washington after the events of September 2011.

During the group’s upcoming tour, the chorus is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. show at SUNY Fredonia on April 6, followed by 7 p.m. concerts at Wesley Chapel Auditorium in Houghton April 7 and Auburn Jr. High School on April 9. The Sea Chanters are slated for a 3 p.m. performance at Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School on April 10 and make their last stop in the Empire State at Albany’s Palace Theatre with a 7 p.m. showtime on April 11.

Free general admission tickets are available in advance for venues requiring tickets. Tickets for the Albany show can be acquired from the Palace Theatre Box Office, or at all Ballston Spa National Bank branch offices. Tickets are available while they last; any unclaimed seats will be available at the door. For complete ticket information, see the U.S. Navy Band’s tour itinerary via the official website.
