Howard Jones, OMD, BNL Team Up For Summer 2016 Tour

Electronic ’80s synthpop icon Howard Jones is setting out on a North American tour, alongside Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD) and Barenaked Ladies. The power-pop touring trio will perform at several New York state venues during the Last Summer on Earth 2016 Tour this June.

The U.S. tour kicks off in Minneapolis on June 3 with Northeast stops at New York City’s SummerStage, Artpark in Lewiston, Bethel Woods in Bethel, and Philadelphia’s the Mann Center before capping off the summer run at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles on July 24.

Known for chart-topping songs like “What is Love?” and “No One Is To Blame,” Jones has sold more than 8 million albums worldwide and will join the tour after a 14-date solo run throughout his native United Kingdom. His most recent project Engage (March 2015) is a fan-funded, 18-track double-disc release in celebration of his 30th year in music. Jones transformed the album into a multimedia live experience that incorporated projected visuals, custom costumes, neon makeup and immersive audience participation through smartphone apps. The English musician last appeared in New York City for a solo piano show at the Iridium, and he recently wrote original tracks for the soon-to-be-released film Eddie the Eagle, starring Hugh Jackman and Christopher Walken.

Having last played in New York City at Webster Hall this January, New Wave band OMD received major U.S. fame with the 1986 hit “If You Leave,” which was written for John Hughes’ film Pretty in Pink. The English group has sold more than 40 million records and has been a major influence for notable musical acts like Depeche Mode, Howard Jones, Radiohead, The Killers and LCD Soundsystem. Known for having an experimental and intellectual approach to synthpop, OMD’s albums Architecture & Morality (1981) and Dazzle Ships (1983) remain as pioneering records for the genre, and their latest release, 2013’s English Electric, was well received.

Canadian rock band the Barenaked Ladies timed this year’s LSOE tour in celebration of the release of their BNL Rocks Red Rocks album, a live recording of the band’s June 2015 show. The record features some of the band’s greatest hits like “One Week,” “Pinch Me” and “If I Had $1,000,000” and appearances by Colin Hay and Blaise Garza of the Violent Femmes. Most recently, BNL dropped their 12th studio album, Silverball, which features the catchy single “Duct Tape Heart.” The band received major attention when it created the opening theme song for award-winning television series The Big Bang Theory.

Tickets for most shows will be on sale to the public at 10 a.m. Feb. 5; tickets for Lewiston go on sale on March 4. All ticket holders will receive a digital copy of the Barenaked Ladies’ forthcoming live album. VIP meet-and-greet packages are also available for all LSOE tour dates.
