While the Hall of Fame, Lifetime Achievement, Educator of the Year and Submitted Recording Nominees will be announced during the press conference on Feb. 2, the public can submit People’s Choice favorites until Jan. 10 through the website; nominations are being accepted in three categories, Local Music Artists, Live Music Venue and Festival or Live Music Series. Weekly online voting for People’s Choice officially opens to the public on Jan. 12. The 2015 People’s Choice winners were Briana Jessie, FoxFest and Kegs Canal Side, after 125,616 votes were recorded, according to the SAMMYS website.

Since the first-ever SAMMYS at the Landmark Theater in 1993, the annual celebration founded by Frank Malfitano of the Syracuse Jazz Fest continues to support Central New York musicians. NYS Music was on hand during SAMMYS 2015 to witness Phish drummer and Syracuse native Jon Fishman receive the Lifetime Achievement Award (and later jam with this local act) and other inductees Bobby Comstock, Chris Goss, Loren Barrigar, the Works and David Rezak, plus the following night’s winners including Castle Creek (Best Blues), Jeffrey Pepper Rodgers (Best Americana) and others in more than 13 categories.

Last year the SAMMYS ceremony and awards show sold out. Tickets to both 2016 events will go on sale in February. Stay tuned for more SAMMYS announcements to follow leading up to the March celebration.
