Duran Duran Announces 2016 Tour Dates

Eighties new wave/synth pop band Duran Duran announced that they will spend the spring and summer of 2016 touring in support of their latest album.

The Paper Gods Tour will kick off in Durham, North Carolina, on March 28, 2016. Disco icons CHIC, led by guitarist Nile Rodgers, will join the band on almost every date of the tour, with an additional support act to be announced at a later date.

The tour will be divided into two legs. The first will run through April and includes shows up and down the East Coast and Canada including Brooklyn. The second leg of the tour keeps the band stateside in July and August including shows in Toronto, Boston and Philadelphia.

Paper Gods was released worldwide on Sept. 11 and peaked at No. 10 on Billboard’s Top 200 Album chart, earning Duran Duran its highest-charting album in 22 years. Since the 1980s, Duran Duran have placed 21 singles in the Billboard Hot 100 including Not. 1 hits “A View to a Kill” and “The Reflex” and have sold more than 100 million records worldwide. The band became most notable for their use of music video and were awarded with a MTV Life Time Achievement Award in 2003.

Rodgers served as a producer on Paper Gods and has enjoyed a long collaborative history with Duran Duran including the band’s hit singles “The Reflex” and “Wild Boys” as well as the 1986 album Notorious. CHIC found success in the late ’70s with the disco hits “Le Freak” and “Good Times.” In October 2015, CHIC was nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for the 11th time.

Four of the five band’s original members — singer Simon LeBon, bassist John Taylor, keyboardist Nick Rhoades and drummer Roger Taylor — performed several West Coast shows with CHIC shortly after the release of Paper Gods this past October. Shortly after the albums release, Duran Duran embarked on a sold-out U.K. arena tour that wraps up on Dec. 12.
