lespecial Celebrates Debut Album with Short Tour

New York and Boston-based lespecial are set to release their debut album, Omnisquid, on Friday, Nov. 20.

The new album marks a return to the heavy sound of their early work, which is a departure from the tone of their 2013 EP, Ceremony.

From the press release:

Bassist Luke Bemand said that instead of claiming an ethereal, minimal  texture throughout, the band wanted to capture its core concepts of power trio mayhem married to complex rhythmic patterns, while making a cohesive, cinematic album. “There is an emphasis on drum-driven odd time signatures, glitched samples, live looping and analog effects to give it a human sound, and sound like three people who are really creating something collectively.”

Omnisquid was recorded in Syracuse at More Sound Recording Studio with the engineering assistance of Andrew Greacen and Jocko Randall (engineer for John Brown’s Body and Rubblebucket). “Absolutely Stunning,” the final track on the album, features cellist Julian Lenz. The band also worked with Billy Martin of Medeski, Martin, and Wood on the artwork for the album.

lespecial will be playing a brief tour supporting Consider the Source and The Mike Dillon Band. This tour includes a stop at Brooklyn Bowl on Sunday, Nov. 29. They will also be holding an album release party on Saturday, Nov. 28 at Morrison Gallery in Kent, Connecticut, with Billy Martin and Ed Mann, percussionist for Frank Zappa.
