Mayhem Festival Hits The Northeast Next Week

Starting Wednesday July 15 in Toronto, Rockstar Energy Drink’s Mayhem Festival is hitting venues across the Northeast. Mayhem then travels around to New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts and New York in the next 2 weeks. NYSMusic will be covering the stop in Hartford, Connecticut on Sunday July 19.

The lineup this year features one of the “Big 4” members Slayer as the headliner. Expect a setlist filled with classics such as “Raining Blood” and “Angel of Death,” as well as new songs from their upcoming album Repentless, which is due out on Sept. 11.  Before fans get to see one of the most legendary thrash metal bands of all time, they’re getting a 60 minute set from King Diamond. Many headbangers were initially disappointed when they heard Mayhem was going small this year due to booking issues, however the news of King Diamond made it better. For those who don’t know who King Diamond is, he’s the lead singer of Danish heavy metal band Mercyful Fate. Between King Diamond and Slayer, look for an exciting stage show with theatrics and pyrotechnics.

The last two bands playing on the Rockstar Energy Drink Main Stage are HELLYEAH and the Devil Wears Prada. HELLYEAH has been on the road constantly since the release of Blood For Blood, their 4th album. This album is definitely one to tour behind with all of the awesome tracks it has. It’s not often that an album comes out these days that’s great from start to finish, but HELLYEAH did just that. Between “Sangre Por Sangre”, “Demons In The Dirt”, “Moth”, and “Hush”, the guys in HELLYEAH created their best album to date.  Expect a lot of material from Blood For Blood during their set as well as songs from their first three albums. Opening the main stage is The Devil Wears Prada. This metalcore band is going to attract many younger to Mayhem Festival. Expect to hear their new single, “Supernova,” as well as heavier songs from their five albums.

The rest of the action for the day comes from the Victory Records Stage with ten bands playing throughout the afternoon. The day opens at 1pm with Coldcock Band Winner for a quick 15 minute set to show the crowd what they’ve got. After that, the lineup consists of: Code Orange, Shattered Sun, Sworn In, Sister Sin, Jungle Rot, Thy Art Is Murder, Whitechapel, Kissing Candice and Feed Her To The Sharks. Fans — pay close attention to the set times though because between The Devil Wears Prada and HELLYEAH, the action jumps back to the Victory Records Stage and once more between HELLYEAH and King Diamond.

The doors for Mayhem Festival open at 1pm so make sure to get there early enough to leave time for traffic jams, parking and any pre-show partying that needs to be done!
